A:ai 爱... wo ai china 我爱中国... ai means love... i love China
B: bus... the buses here I love them! I love taking them and exploring the city on them, seriously Memphis we should do way better in this area
C:Chinglish... I've pretty much become a pro at interpreting and speaking this language it's my fav... its also what this list is in :)
D:Drink stand lady... also known as the sim card lady... but I like to refer to her as the sometimes has cherry coke lady... yes the small stand that you'd never think has imports... I think she may stock them just for me
E:Elevator... I live on the 19th floor, I'm beyond grateful for the elevator! I also love getting to see people in the elevator and commonly get called a 外国热 "waigouren" (foreigner) by the children and well you just never know what you're gonna get on the elevator... it always an experience!
F:fen se...粉色 the Chinese word for pink... if you know me this one needs no more explaining
G:Good News of the One who has given himself and loves the people
H:Hanzi...汉字 the characters that I see allover the place that are often accompanied by funny english translations
I:ILP... my team! Love them and am so thankful for them
J:Jiangsu, Nanjing 江苏, 南京 the providence and city I live in
K:kitchen counter/ window... my favorite place to sit and think and look at the beautiful city the the Father allows me to live in
L:Linju... 邻居 my neighbor, we may not speak the same language and probably don't have a lot in common but I am so thankful for the way he helps me and looks out for me!
M:Meigouren...美国人 American... its funny how moving out of your passport country makes you realize how much of how the world defines you is made up in that one identifying factor.
N:Nanjing Normal... where I go to school... I am so grateful to get the opportunity to learn the language and live in China
O: Open air market... my favorite vegetable lady who gets excited everyday she spots my white skin headed to her booth... plus there's just something about meat hanging in the market that reminds me this isn't America daily
P:Pleco... my 词典 “cidian” (dictionary)on my iPhone, most useful app ever and I frequently utter the phrase "pleco that"
Q:qing 请, qu 去, quan 全, qian 钱... just a few q words... I just love that Chinese uses this letter a lot, it still throws my brain for a loop seeing lots of qs on the page. Fun fact the Q makes a "light ch" sound!
R:rabbit or really... ok so I had a hard time coming up with this one... I normally refer the rabbit as Moose and he's my roomie! Or really as in did that really just happen? Or did I really just see that? I asks these things a lot around here.
S:Split pants these are just so different and I love how no one reacts to a child's bare bottom here
T:ting bu dong 听不懂... I hear you but don't understand... great phrase except it often leads to more Chinese trying to explain the Chinese I didn't understand
U:Unicorn Valley... totally not its real name but one of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood
V:Victory.. the victory we have in the One who is coming again (1 Cor 15:56-58)
W:Waigouren 外国人... foreigner... I've learned to embrace it.
X:xiuxi 休息... take a break... My favorite time this is used is at the end of my Speaking and Listening class, we will finish at like 11:45 but xiuxi until 11:50 when class actually ends. So yes class is over but we aren't dismissed because it isn't time yet... hello cultural difference I struggle to understand!
Y:Yi Jiu YI Er 一九一二... 1912 which happens to be the location of my favorite Xing Ba Ke (starbucks)
Z:Zhongguo 中国... China: the people, the place, gosh I love just about all of it!
